Pantry Makeover

We've been in the process of transforming our Pantry/Laundry/Coat Closet/Office space for a few months.  If only I had before pictures to share how scary this room use to look which was essentially just piles of boxes and random paraphernalia that we had been throwing in this room when we didn't know what to do with it.  It was our own personal hoarders secret space.  I finally got to a point where I was going nuts any time I walked in there so we dived right in clearing everything out without the foresight of taking pictures of the mess that was our previous "storage unit" and now serves as the before mentioned Pantry/Laundry/Coat Closet/Office space.

Needless to say this 10x7 space packs a serious punch of utility for our home.  I'm going to reveal the entire space soon but today we'll give you a sneak peak of the pantry makeover.

We purchased the shelving from Ikea and had put up a side of the pantry a few months ago.  I decided it needed pattern and color to bring some life to the rather dull shelving.

We then decided to add a corner unit for additional shelving space.

The stencil pattern is from Cutting Edge Stencil in the Trellis Allover Stencil.  I wanted to go with a darker color so the pattern stood out more than the shelving and food.

The stencil was pretty easy to do the only advice I would give is to press much lighter than you think you should.  There was a little bleeding over the pattern when I took the template off from pressing too hard and I found that it was better pressing very light and just go over it a couple times.

Since we just added the new shelving, we didn't have a ton of stuff to put on both sides and the color turned out a little more bold than I would have liked.  Once we go food shopping and organize everything in the pantry better, I think the color will blend much better.  We're also going to eventually put a wine fridge at the bottom of the shelving, so the shelving may be a little tighter when we move it up.

Stay tuned for what we've done with the rest of this room.

  1. Looks great! I'm glad you went bold. I've never done a stencil but I've pondered doing one for my bathroom.

Do you roll right over it? Spray paint it?
